From clothing to housewares to furniture and much more, the St. Vincent de Paul store in Hilbert has something for everyone—and its profits go toward helping people in need.

St. Vincent de Paul of Hilbert has been a major force in helping people in need in the community since 1998.

Originally located on Main Street in Hilbert, the store has been in its current location on Eighth Street since it was constructed in 2001.

Store Manager Joann Kopack has been a volunteer for five years. “We help people of all races, color or creed,” she said. “However, it is necessary to determine their level of need. We work with several different agencies in the area in addition to people who come directly to us.

“One of the biggest benefits we provide to everyone that comes in is our inexpensive prices and our multitude of sales, including our 50 percent off of the entire store sale on the first Friday of every month.”

The fully stocked store offers books, collectibles, dishes, cookware, small appliances, shoes, clothing, furniture and a variety of unique items. New items are rotated into the current offerings as space allows. “We basically offer everything,” Kopack said.

“Everyone here is a volunteer,” Kopack explained, adding approximately 40 volunteers help keep the store running smoothly.
