Home to four National Bird Dog Circuit World Champion Labrador retrievers, Rangerwood Kennels is known for quality dogs and outstanding kennel and training services.

The only kennel in the United States to have been home to four world champion Labradors, Rangerwood Kennel owners Jeff and Stacey Lecher, along with their sons Gage and Colten, strive to produce yellow, black, and chocolate Labrador puppies that are healthy, intelligent, trainable and a pleasure to work with in the field and enjoy as part of a family. The Lecher’s Labradors excel in upland field, duck blind, AKC Hunt Tests and Tournament Hunting Competitions.

“Rangerwood Kennels has well-rounded training regiments for both hunt and obedience training for retriever breeds,” Jeff said. “Our programs are dedicated to our simple philosophy of training dogs to be great family dogs, top-notch hunting companions, hunt test dogs or tournament hunting competitors by using their inherent need to please us.”

“At Rangerwood Kennels, we also offer boarding services for all breeds. All dogs brought to us are treated like they are one of the family,” Jeff added.

In business since 2005

Located just outside of New Holstein, Rangerwood Kennel is situated on 14 acres and has been in business since 2005, although the love of dogs goes back to childhood for Jeff and Stacey. They purchased their first labs Ranger and Mack in 1995 and today own and/or co-own ten labs. “We have puppies living in over 15 states and Canada,” Jeff said.

“Our passion for hunting encompasses almost every game bird species available in our state, so we needed a dog that could do it all from upland to waterfowl, and no dog is more versatile than the Labrador Retriever,” Jeff explained. “As things usually go, Stacey fell in love with a Chocolate Lab pup from one litter and I with a Yellow lab pup from another litter, so we compromised and got both, not knowing what we were in for.”

When the Lecher’s lab Drake took third place at the Pheasant Hunters Unlimited Nationals in March 2005 when he was 10 months old, in the puppy division, for dogs under 2 years of age, Jeff said they were hooked. “I read as much as I could on training and Drake and I trained daily during the off season.

Over the last 10 years, Rangerwood dogs have won five World Championships, 10 National Championships, and 15 Dog of the Year titles and continue to be among the top finishers at events across the country.

National honors

“Drake was inducted into the National Bird Dog Circuit Hall of Fame in 2015,” Jeff said. “Our dogs have also appeared on the Pursuit Channel’s Bird Dog Challenge TV show. In 2011 we also started running dogs in AKC Hunt Tests and now have dogs working at every level, including Juniors, Seniors and Masters. Colten and Gage are now helping with training, caring for and competing the dogs, which makes us very proud.”

The Lecher’s newest dog, Pike, is the most recent winner of NBDC World Champion and AKC Master Hunter designations and he is the only dog to have attained both those titles before 30 months of age. -

Not only busy with obedience training, and upland hunting training as well as breeding Labradors, the Lechers continue to grow and improve their kennel having just completed a major expansion with the help of Mathes Construction and Gutter Company, which will greatly improve their ability to meet the growing demand for boarding. “We started boarding dogs in kennels in our house
