Seniors provide transportation

Originally the Kiel Senior Citizens Club was organized as a social club to provide pastime and gemütlichkeit for its members.

The Kiel Senior Citizens Club is open to all seniors of Kiel and the surrounding area. The club meets the first Monday of each month starting at 1 p. m. at the Kiel Community Center.

In the past, the Manitowoc County Red Cross set up a transportation system to provide rides for people with needs. Later, through the generosity of one of the Kiel Senior Citizens Club members, the club took over the transportation system. The club purchased two cars and provides rides wherever needed.

Recently, with the generosity of St. Peter’s UCC and several organizations and individuals, the club acquired a handicap accessible van and can now transport wheelchair-bound passengers. The system is staffed by volunteer drivers.

To schedule a trip via car call Beattie at 894-7861 Mondays from 1 to 5 p. m. or Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a. m. to 2 p. m. To schedule the van, call Mary at (920) 652-4136 Mondays through Fridays from 9 a. m. to 3 p. m. The system is available Mondays to Fridays as well as other times if a driver is available.
